Keystone Heads can be used as an accent in arches above entrances and windows. A keystone is the centre wedge stone at the apex of a masonry vault or arch, which is the final piece placed during construction and locks all the stones into position, allowing the arch to bear weight. This makes a keystone very important structurally. Although a masonry arch or vault cannot be self-supporting until the keystone is placed, the keystone experiences the least stress of any of the voussoirs (stone contained within an arch), due to its position at the apex.
If you are looking to include Keystone Heads in your latest construction project contact Stone Lintels UK as we can form any precast style or colour Keystone you may require.
